What is an extra leg for a shooting stick?

An extra leg – also called a support leg – is a telescopic carbon fibre leg that clicks onto the shooting stick as a fifth leg and adds extra vertical stability. The four-legged shooting stick already provides one of the most stable rests on the market – with the support leg mounted, it can also stand entirely unaided: the shooting stick stays ready at the right height and position while you raise your binoculars and glass the terrain – and the rest is exactly where you left it the second the situation changes.

When does a support leg make sense?
